What is an Ovary Sparing Spay?

An ovary-sparing spay (OSS) involves removing the uterus and cervix while leaving one or both ovaries intact. Because the uterus is removed, your pet will be unable to become pregnant, even if mating occurs, however your pet will still maintain their natural hormonal balance.

Surgery Process

Bringing a family member in for surgery is never an easy thing. At Holistic Pet Care Center, we know exactly what you’re going through because we’re pet parents, just like you. Rest assured that we’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that your loved one’s procedure is as stress-free as possible.

Pre-Surgical Care

Our comprehensive surgical care begins with thorough preoperative screening to help reduce the risk of complications for your pet. We’ll also customize a safe, effective plan to keep your pet comfortable and pain-free – before, during and following surgery.

Diagnostics
Holistic

CBC- A CBC evaluates blood and different types of cell currently in circulation. It also evaluates your pet's red blood cells, which carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body and white blood cells, which fight infections and other diseases. It will also test platelets which help with blood clotting.

Chem 10- A Chem 10 measures the amount of certain substances in your pet's blood, such as electrolytes, fats, proteins, glucose, and enzymes. The test can provide important information about your pet's overall health and how well your pet's organs are functioning.

Once safely sedated, our team will perform the surgery as efficiently as possible. As the doctor works, our dedicated support staff will remain present at all times to assist with surgery and closely monitor your pet’s wellbeing.

When Should Your Pet Receive and OSS?

At Holistic Pet Care Center we will take into consideration your pet’s age, breed, sex, health status, household environment, and temperament. Each patient must be considered individually – we do not have a one-size-fits-all answer for whether it is best for your pet to retain their ovaries. We would love to start the conversation with you today.
