This week we wanted to highlight a very special Doberman Pinscher named Lady.
According to Lady's owner Kelly, "My niece only had Lady for 2 weeks before Dianne and I met her in the middle of July 2022. We watched Lady and my niece's Boxer for two weeks, so they could go out of town." By the end of the two weeks, Kelly was attached to her and wanted to give Lady her forever home. Her original name was Hades, but Kelly thought Lady would better honor the beautiful Doberman that she is. As Kelly got to know Lady, it was evident that she was in poor health and emotionally traumatized. Kelly believes that Lady originally came from a puppy mill where she was likely bred to have as many litters as she could.
"In the first few months it was heartbreaking to see the defeat in her," Kelly shared. "When we called her to come to us, she would walk towards us with her head down and drop to our feet. This poor girl had some serious trauma to overcome and I hope that our love would help her to heal...I felt a connection with Lady the moment I felt her broken spirit." Kelly explained that Lady is temperamental and has strong boundaries toward her Boxer companion and people she doesn't know. At our clinic, Lady is sweet and interacts well with everyone.
Kelly first met Dr. Roach in 2022 after deciding it was important that Lady not have any more puppies. Dr. Roach performed an ovary-sparing spay on Lady.
In February 2023, Lady was having severe skin and allergy problems. She had hair loss, hives, and pustules. She was also struggling with digestion and bowel issues. Dr. Roach recommended that Lady start a special diet and that she receive fecal transplants. By June, Lady's skin and bowel issues improved greatly and her skin looked almost as good as new.
In June of 2023, Lady was having issues with her tail. Her tail had been docked and sutured improperly and was causing Lady great discomfort. Dr. Roach corrected the issues with Lady's tail, and after 2 weeks her tail healed beautifully.
In October of last year, Kelly brought Lady back to Dr. Roach. Kelly shared "We noticed she occasionally leaked urine and she had achy joints sometimes. Dr Roach spoke to us about the options, one of them being acupuncture. We had already seen success before with our Boxer boy, Truman, which is how we first met Dr Roach."
Lady now receives regular acupuncture in conjunction with cran-aid powder to help her bladder. She was also prescribed supplements and the Chinese herb Suo Quan Wan.
Dr. Roach's treatments have helped Lady maintain normal urinary function. Kelly expressed that she has been very pleased with the results of these treatments.
